The grassroots Lid I-5 project has achieved a milestone: An official feasibility study demonstrates the project is both possible and necessary. The study, published in 2020, also found a range of opportunities and challenges along the study area in central Seattle. Join the volunteer-based Lid I-5 Steering Committee on a tour of the study area to experience the dreadful freeway canyon firsthand and hear the latest project details. You&#x27;ll see how Seattle&#x27;s unique topography and the freeway configuration will influence design, and walk through existing lids at Freeway Park and the Convention Center.This tour will highlight the recent nomination of Freeway Park, opened in 1976, for a Seattle landmark designation. Freeway Park is one of the nation&#x27;s first (and perhaps the most beautiful) recreational facilities built over a freeway. The landmark designation is an important acknowledgement of the park&#x27;s place in history, but there is also a need to ensure the park can be modernized to respond to the needs of a dynamic city. Join us to learn more about how you can participate in this effort.We will be joined by Senator Marko Liias, D-Lynnwood, who as Senate Transportation Chair helped lead the state&#x27;s 2022 transportation funding package. The package will affect the future of Interstate 5 and it has implications for both Seattle residents and statewide interests.Join us rain or shine. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are encouraged. This walk is approximately 1.25 miles and includes staircases and moderate hillclimbs.Donations of $10 per person or more are welcome but not required. Donations support our costs for community events, outreach materials, and professional consulting. Your contribution can help sustain our efforts for the years to come. Thank you!
