Facilitator: Na Omi Judy Shintani, MA12 attendees – no art experience necessary, adults, and 10 year olds with adult. 

Shintani, uses art as a process and meditation. Her family’s incarceration story was the catalyst to offer this workshop focused on celebration and remembrance of loved ones.As a daughter of a father incarcerated at the Tule Lake Segregation Camp, she uses her family’s story as a catalyst to offer a lantern-making workshop focused on celebration and remembrance of loved ones. Participants can honor ancestors, friends, special events in their lives, those who inspire them, or even pets.Shintani will lecture on the universal connection of light to honor loved ones and will facilitate a writing process to lead participants to think deeply about their subject.She will show examples of ways to work with materials. Students will have 2 hours of art creation time and then share finished lanterns and stories. Participants will bring photos of loved ones. All other materials supplied.
