Come explore the Roman Past of St Mary's Church &amp; Beddington Park. See the Roman coffin discovered in the 19th century.

To celebrate the Festival of Archaeology 2022, local historian and archaeologist John Phillips will give a talk on the Roman Past of St Mary's Church &amp; Beddington Park. Chance to see the Roman Coffin discovered in the 19th century and held at St Mary's Church. There will also be hands-on activities for children and young people (ages 5 - 16) inspired by Roman casting methods and art techniques:In our casting activity inspired by Beddington's Roman coffins, children and young people will get to create their own sand and shell moulds, before casting them with plaster of paris. They can also have a go at creating their very own mosaic coasters, inspired by Roman art.Dates: Saturday 16th July and Saturday 23rd July Schedule: - 14.00- 15.30: Youth Activities for ages 5-16 (Free to attend, no booking required, children must be accompanied at all times) Location: St Mary's Church, Beddington- 14.30 - 15.00: Roman Talk with John Phillips (Free to attend, open to all, booking required via Eventbrite) Location: St Mary's Church, Beddington Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund Project: 'Restoring and Celebrating the Arts and Craftsmanship of St Mary's Church, Beddington'This event is part of the Council for British Archaeology's Festival of Archaeology 2022 For more info about the Festival go to: https://www.archaeologyuk.org/festival.htmlIMPORTANT INFORMATION: The talk will take place inside St Mary's Church in Beddington Park. Please arrive at St Mary's Church about 5 minutes before the talk is due to start. Meet via the West Tower entrance to St Mary's. Access: Most of the church is ground level and easily accessible. Ramp access to the Chancel is available on request. An accessible toilet is located in St Mary’s Centre. Cancellation: If you can no longer attend, please let us know at least 48 hours before the event so we can reallocate your ticket/s.
