The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.The Sound Room is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, a  501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on promoting the Arts.

An evening of live duets (and more) with music from Brazil, Venezuela, India, the Middle East and beyond.Rebecca Kleinmann: flutes and vocals with Carlos Caminos: guitarWeaving between Venezuelan, Brazilian, Flamenco, and original music, Rawcoustic Duo delights audiences with their fiery and heartfelt performances. Both musicians, deeply versed in their art-forms, use their virtuosity in service of expression and musicality. Carl Dixon: percussion with Derek Wright: oudThe duo plays original, improvisational, and traditional music from around the world, with elements of Middle Eastern, North Indian classical, Afro-Brazilian, and more. Folk, funk, sacred, devotional, virtuosic.BiosRebecca Kleinmann is an acclaimed flutist, singer, and composer with a professional career marked by diversity and improvisation. In the words of Latin Grammy pianist and composer, Jovino Santos Neto, “Rebecca plays flute with the passion of a flamenco dancer.&quot; An explorer at heart, she rockets and flows between genres, one day leading The Rebecca Kleinmann Jazz Quartet, the next day performing with a Brazilian Choro ensemble, and then jamming in flamenco juergas. Carlos Caminos is a Venezuelan-American musician, composer and performer with over 25 years of experience performing as a Guitarist. A long career has taken him on a journey of very diverse projects and collaborations. His project, Caminos Music is the result of years developing a passion for learning: Flamenco (Bulerías, Soleá por Bulería, Alegrías, Fandangos de Huelva, among others), Latin Music (Salsa, Bolero, Son, Tangos, Cumbia, and more), Venezuelan Music (Joropo, Vals, Merengue) and Latin Jazz.Carl Dixon is a versatile percussionist at home with music spanning multiple genres, continents, and instruments. Carl teaches percussion and directs the Brazilian Bateria and Latin Jazz percussion ensembles at the University of Colorado-Boulder. He is the Musical Director of the Boulder Samba School and Bateria Alegria, a community based Brazilian drumming ensemble. Additionally, Carl is the Principal Percussionist of the Central City Opera and Fort Collins Symphony, percussionist with Opera Colorado, and has performed with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Ballet, Boulder Philharmonic, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, and Greeley Philharmonic orchestras.Derek Wright is a passionate multi-instrumentalist, teacher, composer, dance accompanist, and performer. He studied North Indian classical music for 10 years with legendary sarod player Maestro Ali Ahkbar Khan, and later with his son, Alam Khan. Additionally, Derek has a love for Brazilian music and has lived and toured in Brazil and around the U.S. studying, performing and teaching maracatú, other rhythms from Pernambuco, and various forms of samba. A true fusion artist with classical training and a background in jazz from his years of study at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Derek&#x27;s passion for the culture, complex rhythms, time signatures, and history of this music creates a truly unique and tantalizing sound.
