Join us in Hermann at Stone Hill Winery for the premiere of Emmy-winning producer Cat Neville's new documentary on the history of Missouri wine. Enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvres and then settle in for conversation with Jon and Nathan Held on the family's roots in winemaking, followed by a screening of Winemaking in Missouri: A well-cultivated history. This hour-long documentary traces Missouri's rich winemaking past, exploring the industry's German roots, the role Missouri played in solving the phylloxera expidemic, the impact of Prohibition and winemaking's resurgence in the 1960s and '70s. The premiere will take place at Stone Hill Winery, the first winery to reemerge after Prohibition’s devastating blow. The Held family has been at the helm since 1965, but the winery was originally founded in 1847, 175 years ago and only 10 years after the town of Hermann was founded by the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia. Pre-prohibition, Stone Hill was the second largest winery in the United States (Yes — you read that right!) and today, it’s Missouri’s oldest and most awarded winery, consistently taking home gold medals at wine competitions. The event is free to attend. Pre-registered attendees over 21 will be offered a free glass of wine to complement the evening's hors d'oeuvres.
