In honor of APAHM, Send Chinatown Love is organizing a series of community initiatives centered around the theme of BUILDING BRIDGES & MAKING CONNECTIONS. From in-person volunteering events to fireside chats about community, we hope you'll join us in May.

For the month of May in honor of APAHM, Send Chinatown Love is organizing a series of community initiatives centered around the theme of BUILDING BRIDGES &amp; MAKING CONNECTIONS. We chose this theme in light of recent events that have historically occurred and continue to occur – among the Asian hate crimes, subway shootings, and closure of our beloved small businesses, we are deprived of our right to feel safe in our communities. We don’t have all the answers, but we hope to foster connections in an attempt to re-weave the broken fabric of our community. In a time that feels increasingly despairing, we hope to build bridges between members of different communities. One of these initiatives is our Community Engagement Panel, where we will host an in-person session with AAPI speakers in a fireside chat format. Our vision for these sessions is to facilitate informal cultural workshops, with the purpose of learning, listening, and engaging, open to all members of the community. Extend a hand to your neighbors and let’s find comfort in the strength of those who are here. Let’s emerge stronger and united.We have the honor of hosting <a href="https://www.sophfei.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sophia Li</a> and <a href="https://www.qianjuliewang.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Qian Julie Wang</a> for our panel, which will take place at Winnie's Bar in Chinatown. We hope you'll join us to engage in these community discussions together. If you're drinking, remember to bring cash for the bar at Winnie's! Must be 21+ to drink (but you don't need to be 21+ to attend). **Please note that tickets are non-refundable. Sophia Li is a Chinese-American multimedia journalist, film director, and environmental advocate. She is a multi-hyphenate creative with a passion for storytelling. Her life’s work is to make talking about issues such as the climate and racial justice more accessible, more digestible, and more human.Qian Julie Wang is the author of Beautiful County, a poignant literary memoir that follows her family through those years, as they held onto hope and joy while confronting poverty, manual labor, and the perpetual threat of deportation. A graduate of Yale Law School and Swarthmore College—where she juggled classes and extracurriculars with four part-time jobs—Qian Julie is now a litigator. She is now managing partner of Gottlieb &amp; Wang LLP, a firm dedicated to advocating for education and civil rights.
