Fibershed is a non-profit educational and research organization that develops regenerative textile systems that are based on carbon farming, regional manufacturing, and public education.We envision the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enliven connection and ownership of ‘soil-to-soil’ textile processes. These diverse textile cultures are designed to build soil carbon stocks on the working landscapes on which they depend, while directly enhancing the strength of regional economies. Both fiber and food systems now face a drastically changing climate, and must utilize the best of time-honored knowledge and available science for their long-term ability to thrive.

Fibershed Learning Center

Join Judi Pettite onsite at the Fibershed Learning Center near Point Reyes Station, where we&#x27;ll explore techniques using dips and resists to create gorgeous abstract maps of local color on our textiles and yarn. We’ll have two large indigo vats and two tannin dye baths. Bring 16-32 ounces of scoured natural fibers or fabric to use in the class. After everyone has dyed their initial round of 16 ounces, dyeing another 16 ounces of fiber will be possible.Students should bring their own lunch, snacks, and beverages (water bottle/travel mug), as well as an apron, notebook, and camera.

<a href="https://www.judipettite.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Judi Pettite</a> is an artist, researcher and educator currently living in Southern California. In the field, studio or on the road, she is interested in what motivates people to work with natural pigments, how they forage or cultivate these materials and how this creativity is expressed. Her artwork is intertwined with the exploration of natural mediums and is inspired by many art forms, including painting, drawing, performance and installation.Judi started the BioHue project in 2006 to create plant-based pigments for use in her art practice. The project moved her beyond the studio and into the outdoors she loves. Through her workshops and products, Judi hopes to support and develop an interest in sustainable colors for artists.
