Stories of Youth with Disabilities

True Story Theateris a nonprofit improv theater company.   Our mission is to promote social healing through theatre by building empathy, respect, and understanding in the honoring of true stories.Come to a performance: A few volunteers from the audience share what’s important to them related to the theme of the show. Actors listen deeply then spontaneously transform the stories into theater, portraying the heart of what they heard using dialogue, movement, music and song.  From this simple interaction, people laugh, cry and experience surprising insights.Try a drop-in c﻿lass: Anyone interested is welcome--no theatre experience necessary.  Come and have fun and share stories with other playful people.H﻿ire us to perform for your group or family for a special event.

True Story Theater

In this interactive performance, True Story Theater will bring to life personal stories about the experience of living with disabilities.

DESCRIPTIONThe Arlington Commission on Disability and True Story Theater offer a unique public forum open to all, featuring stories of youth living with disabilities so the wider community can acknowledge and learn from their experiences.* In this community-building improvisational theater experience, personal stories from young people and other audience volunteers are respectfully dramatized in the moment as short theater pieces. People often experience deep, respectful listening, honest reflection, warmth, and insight as the actors strive to capture the heart of each story shared, with the audience as witness.Come and share a moment from your life, or listen and watch as True Story’s actors creatively embody the essence of each story in dialogue, music, movement and song.
