Learn to sew Colorganic® T-shirts for men, women and children using Foxfibre® organic cotton fabric from Sally Fox

This workshop will take place at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center at Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station, CA. (Address provided upon registration.) Sewing with knits and making clothing that fits and looks good isn’t hard or scary! As a class we will work through each step of the process.This is an intro to sewing knits workshop that can be sewn by hand or sewing machine and promotes ZERO waste. Students who choose to hand sew are not expected to finish their garments in class.Gynna will provide all materials needed for each student to have a successful sewing experience. Students will learn: <ul><li>How to sew a knit T-shirt by hand or sewing machine</li><li>How to trace a pattern </li><li>How to best layout pattern pieces on fabric for minimal waste</li></ul>Students will take home:<ul><li>A finished T-shirt</li><li>Pattern pieces to make many more t-shirts!</li></ul>Instructor will provide: <ul><li>Paper and drafting supplies</li><li>Simple sewing supplies</li><li>Size specific pattern pieces</li><li>Measurement cards (handout)</li><li>Cut cards (handout)</li><li>Colorganic medium weight brown jersey fabric</li><li>Colorganic rib knit fabric (as needed for neckband, arm cuffs and waist band)</li><li>Colorganic Foxfibre sewing thread</li><li>New needles for each machine: ball point, jersey </li></ul>Students should bring: <ul><li>Your own lunch, snacks, and beverages (water bottle/travel mug). Lunch is not provided. </li><li>Notepad, pencil</li><li>Basic sewing supplies: scissors, pins/clips</li><li>Sewing machine (in good working order) with foot petals, instruction book if needed and any other parts that it needs. </li><li>Optional: students can bring knit medium weight knit fabric and rib knit fabric if they would like to prep another T-shirt in class, if time allows </li></ul>Experience: Beginner sewing experience needed. Students should know how to use their own machines and be comfortable threading and changing bobbins. Gynna Clemes received her first sewing machine at age 7, and began designing and drafting patterns and sewing her own clothing during high school. She taught herself to knit during college, and after college added weaving and spinning to her fiber journey.A mostly self-taught maker, Gynna has a relaxed view on creating — there are many tips and tricks to learn but few steadfast rules.
