Join us for a candid conversation with guest speaker, Lawrence Faziola MD, FAPA, on:<ul><li>The basics of schizophrenia and psychosis</li><li>The science behind our understanding of schizophrenia and psychosis</li><li>Substance use and how it affects these disorders</li></ul>About Lawrence Faziola MD, FAPADr. Faziola, originally from San Francisco, earned a BS from St. Mary’s College of California, and an MA at San Francisco State University before obtaining his MD in Omaha, Nebraska at Creighton University. He returned to California to complete residency training in psychiatry at UC Irvine Medical Center, where he joined the clinical faculty in 2011. His duties including attending to patients in crisis on UC Irvine’s inpatient adult psychiatric ward, and as a provider of electroconvulsive therapy. In early 2018, he transitioned to the Long Beach VA hospital, where he continues to help people in their recovery from mental illness as section chief of its 15 bed adult inpatient unit, and continues to provide electroconvulsive therapy services. He has been active in organized psychiatry for the greater part of a decade, where he has advocated for more rational and comprehensive services for those struggling with mental illness, and has served four years as an officer of the Orange County Psychiatric Society. He has distinguished himself as a physician educator for the UCI School of Medicine and the UC Riverside Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience, and precepts for the Charles Drew University psychiatry residency program. He has been recognized with several teaching awards from both UC Irvine and UC Riverside, with several “Faculty of the Year” and “Excellence in Teaching” awards, and was named the 2020 “Teacher of the Year” by the UC Riverside Psychiatry Residency, as well as awarded the 2020 “Outstanding Service” plaque by Orange County Psychiatric Society. He has been recognized twice as a "Physician of Excellence" by the Orange County Medical Association.
