Earth Day Initiative is excited to bring a focus on sustainability solutions to Hudson Yards in partnership with Volkswagen this spring. Apart from the exhibitor fair happening at the plaza, we are excited to invite attendees to join the climate conversation and learn what they can in their own lives to become part of the solution. Come check out the environmental trailblazers on the Earth Day Stage as they highlight some of the solutions being developed in sectors like transportation, energy, and fashion. The 3-day line-up on the stage will feature talks and performances on a range of sustainability topics. See below for the scheduled talks and performances on April 24th!<ul><li>3:00 PM: Fireside chat: New Yorkers taking action: Transforming non recyclable plastic to super strong stylish reusable bags </li></ul> Alex Dabagh: Founder of Anybag Project Moderator: Suzanne Ventura @Greeningfullife Get to know Alex Dabagh. For him, sustainability is personal and it&#x27;s a way of evolving his intergenerational bag factory right here in the garment district of NYC. They partner with organizations (like schools) that organizing plastic bag drives. These locally sourced materials are organized by color then cut into strips and every bag is woven and sewn by hand creating a closed loop carbon negative process right here in NYC. Companies and celebs are taking notice and they have made custom bags for Beyond Meat and Miranda Kerr.<ul><li>3:15 PM: Fireside chat: What is the inspiration to build out a closed loop luxury furniture and design studio right here in Red Hook. What is the process of rescuing materials? Which come first? the materials or the design? </li></ul> Amber Lasciak, Founder of @Redustudios Moderator: Suzanne Ventura @Greeningfullife Let&#x27;s talk about process. ReduStudios rescues construction materials from local manufacturers and builders before they go to landfill. They reimagine and hand craft them into unique pieces of utility and style. How does this minority woman owned company based in Red Hook Brooklyn maximize their local supply chain and support a circular economy. She is utilizing the power of social media for social change. Anna has gone viral for exposing businesses across all sectors for overbuying and &#x27;slash and trash&#x27; practices. Let&#x27;s find out how she&#x27;s progressing from picking trash to building constituencies and creating effective legislation <ul><li>3:45 PM: Fireside chat: How repurposing donated military uniforms and investing in communities of color create a closed loop process to build out support for the mental health of veterans. </li></ul> Angelina and Johanny Puello @lasalbafv Moderator: Suzanne Ventura @Greeningfullife Sisters Angelina and Johanny Puello create their artisanal handbags from repurposed military uniforms. Their closed loop business strategy - “Why not take these uniforms, which often are thrown, away or shredded and give something back to the people that served and sweat in them.” Proceeds from all sales go towards scholarships for low income students interested in studying or doing research on PTSD, mental health, traumatic brain injury and/or memory and the mental health of veterans .
