CHiPS

Citizen Squirrel is organizing neighbors to support CHiPS by fixing up their Little Free Library, which is falling apart. After we fix it up as a community, the Library will serve the community! The Library, which is located outside the CHiPS building, has fallen into disrepair. For many years, the library was full of books that people could enjoy for free, but now the door is broken, there's graffiti everywhere, the paint has faded and there are no books, just trash, inside the Library. Families are invited to join to paint and make signs about the library. Participants are also invited to bring individually wrapped baked goods to provide to CHiPS for their food pantry service and/or one or two books to give to the Library.Community Help in Park Slope, Inc. (CHiPS), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit soup kitchen and women’s shelter in Park Slope, bordering Gowanus, that has provided hot meals to the hungry and homeless since 1971. CHiPS began providing transitional housing and support services for young mothers and their infants in the late 1990s, after the purchase of the CHiPS building at 200 4th Ave. We currently house four mothers and have room for five more along with their infants, located in the Frances Residence above the soup kitchen. Last year, CHiPS fed over 40,000 people during their hour of greatest need.
