Typographics is a design festival for people who use type. Presented by The Cooper Union. In Person and Online. Discounts for Conference tickets are available for educators & students. In-person conference ticket holders can get 10% discount on workshops.

Look for the discount code on the ticket confirmation from Eventbrite.With so many fonts available today, it can be overwhelming, time-consuming and confusing to find the right typeface. It&#x27;s important that designers have the skills to critically evaluate a typeface&#x27;s appropriateness and it’s performance in different contexts. Besides aesthetics and specific usages, designers must often consider language support, legibility, financing and logistics when choosing fonts. Through a series of lectures, discussions and exercises students learn to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of fonts. They&#x27;ll learn about how technology and culture has changed the way we interact with fonts. With an understanding of today&#x27;s best practices, students will gain confidence to make better informed decisions. Students should come with a basic understanding of graphic design concepts and competency in Adobe InDesign. Working experience as a graphic designer is useful but not essential to benefit from this workshop.Required Materials<ul><li>Laptop computer with Adobe Creative Cloud installed</li></ul>Class size is limited to 16 to allow for individual feedback. Tida Tep is a Cambodian-American independent art director and designer. She specializes in typography, identity systems, art direction, and packaging and has done work for Apple, The New York Times, Google Creative Lab, MoMA and Uniqlo. She is an alumni of the Type@Cooper Extended Program and she currently teaches Typography at Cooper Union. Fred Shallcrass is a typeface designer at Frere-Jones Type and teaches typeface design at Parsons. He grew up in New Zealand, designing magazines, lettering and type for cultural and commercial clients and since moving to New York has focused on type, working on branding projects, contributing to retail typeface families and designing custom typefaces and wordmarks.
