Welcome Laura Flecha in discussing her collection, Ready Room with our Lost City Books Host Shady Rose!About Ready Room:In swimming terminology, a ready room is a small preparation area where swimmers gather just before competing in a race. Olympians have been known to call the ready room a psychological torture chamber. It is sometimes silent, sometimes hostile, yet always a place of personal growth. Time in a ready room can be used to gather your thoughts, center your purpose, and balance your being, while also confronting stress, nervousness, and fear.Ready Room tells a story through poetry that spans two decades, capturing joys such as raising children, being in love and enjoying nature's beauty, as well as diving into hardships such as mental illness, abuse, divorce, cancer and infertility. The collection is raw and emotional, taking the reader through the seasons of life, while offering others who share similar struggles a hand to hold. Ready Room bridges a gap between Eastern and Western thought and shares a healing path for those in need.***Laura Flecha was born in Rockville, Maryland. She spent some years living in Sedona, Arizona, and Memphis, Tennessee, and now resides in Poolesville, Maryland. She attained her Masters in Writing from Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. Laura works as a publications and production manager for the American Gastroenterological Association’s medical journals, Gastroenterology and Techniques and Innovations in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Laura’s main passion in writing is poetry with a focus on women’s issues and subjects that can be difficult to talk about. As she was brought up Tibetan Buddhist, her writing sometimes reflects Eastern concepts, though it always blends with Western thought and experiences. Her hope is that her writing brings comfort to those who may face similar challenges, and perhaps provide insight or a shared understanding of human nature. Laura adores spending time on her farmette with her husband, two daughters, son, goldendoodle, chickens, and ducks.***This event will be hosted in-person at Lost City Books! Masks are required of attendees. Accessibility note: This event will be held up two fight of stairs. Lost City Books does not have an elevator.
