Image of Resilience is a photography and art exhibition showcasing historic images of African Americans from Memphis and the Mid-South.

<p>From the archive and collection of Eric Echols, Image of Resilience honors and analyzes ideas about the meaning and significance of early images of African Americans and works by African American image-makers from early to mid 20th century. This exhibition will examine the production of early photographs and the way photography was amalgamated in every aspect of African American life in the South in the height of segregation, Jim Crow, and the early making of the civil rights movement. Through the lenses of image-makers of color, this collection of rare images will showcase and highlight the importance of preserving photos, leaving a legacy of images for others to share, and highlight key images of this collection that reflect family, purpose, love, hope, and resilience. TriStar Arts and Current Art Fund proudly sponsor this photography exhibition.On view April 5th through April 28th with a reception on April 14th from 5pm to 7pm at the Goodwyn Gallery inside the Benjamin Hooks Central Library located at 3030 Poplar Avenue, Memphis TN, 38111.
