The kick-off program for The Art of Wooden Boatbuilding series featuring speakers Harold Burnham and Justin Demetri.

This event is the kick-off lecture for The Art of Wooden Boatbuilding: A Field Institute in Preserving the PastCALLING ALL BOAT LOVERS! This introductory virtual talk will set the stage for The Art of Wooden Boatbuilding: A Field Institute in Preserving the Past series. Experts Justin Demetri and Harold Burnham will give valuable background into the history of boatbuilding as they explain the evolution of the fishing schooner and its construction. This will include the chronological history, told mainly through the lens of Gloucester and Essex, of the famous two-masted schooners: from the colonial Chebacco boats to the mid-20th Century.Harold will share his expertise in traditional boatbuilding methods and explain various elements of construction. This will all be highlighted by historic images from the Essex Shipbuilding Museum and examples from Harold's personal schooner projects.This talk is the perfect way to kick-off The Art of Wooden Boatbuilding: A Field Institute in Preserving the Past series, or it is a wonderfully engaging and informative evening on its own. This virtual lecture is FREE and will be provided on Zoom.Join us for The Art of Wooden Boatbuilding: A Field Institute in Preserving the Past series exploring the principles behind the design and construction of traditional wooden boats.
