We grew out of a collaboration with the Agency by Design research project based at Project Zero, a research center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. How to Create Joy in Secondary Classrooms. A conversation between three Oakland teachers sharing their experiences prioritizing joy in secondary schools as a way of adopting a pedagogy of maker centered learning.

Telling It Like It IsThe team from Community Day School keeps it real about the impact of school closures on themselves and their students. Three teacher fellows from one of the only accredited expulsion schools in the state are finding opportunity to tell their story of their students and the work they do every day despite receiving notice that the school is being closed at the end of the school year.

Find Your Voice. Tell Your Story All students have a voice and a story to tell. With collaborative support from SF Jazz each student created audio recordings then elaborated upon them with multimedia storytelling projects. Using the Agency by Design Framework in Professional Learning In this workshop, we will collaborate to lead your school site in joyful professional development! Let’s integrate maker-centered learning to enrich academic planning and school site culture! Our collective expertise *can* transform and inspire a shift towards staff agency and sense of belonging.

Humanizing Students: Finding Opportunity for Connection through Conferencing Join us as we brainstorm where to find opportunities for1-on-1 talk and connection during the school day. Participants will engage with their inner teenager through roleplay, and hear reflections from Metwest educators who spent time truly getting to know students through conferencing.

Think, Feel, Care - Everywhere Experience several ways that this empathy-building thinking routine can be used in the classroom and community. A remarkable entry point for self-reflection, developing point of view through text, and envisioning school systems.

Solutions to Climate Crisis Begin With Listening To Student LeadersOur students are the experts at living through the climate crisis. Be part of the design process with five students as they engage you in a consultancy protocol. Students will present a climate-related problem and their chosen solution and you will be invited to give them constructive and critical feedback.

Making With Meaning Come and see how recently immigrated students at Castlemont High School are using making to explore science concepts, as well as igniting creativity and interest. Participants will see photos of students engaging in projects and will experience a hands-on activity for themselves.
