The group formed in 2019 when Taisha Estrada, a trained latin-jazz singer, answered a Craigslist “vocalist wanted” ad placed by guitarist Don Potter who by then had already joined forces with drummer Patrick Gough and bassist Mike Larmoyeux. Together the quartet began writing songs that combine heavy, complex, propulsive instrumentals with Estrada’s virtuosic bi-lingual vocals. After playing just a couple shows in late 2019/early 2020, Outerloop was sidelined by the pandemic. Later that year the band cautiously started writing and rehearsing again, and in early 2021 recorded their entire repertoire of 18 songs in 5 days with J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore. Outerloop resumed playing shows in the summer of 2021, notably taking part in the revived Fort Reno outdoor concert series. In early August, the band released two songs from the Magpie Cage sessions earlier that year - “Seeping Mirrors&#x27;&#x27; and “El Control” - grabbing the attention of the Washington Post. An official music video for their song “Seeping Mirrors” - called “the kind of music video you get automatically entranced by” - was released in December of 2021 followed by their debut EP, titled EP 01, on January 8th 2022.
