Event description

Description

“What is identity but the slow, lifelong accretion of gazes: us looking at ourselves being looked at by others.”

—Elitsa Dermendzhiyska

The second iteration of Ume’s art collaboration comes to fruition on September 19.

The exhibition carries the same, but perhaps an even stronger intention from 29 BodieS in 2018 , and showcases 30 artists (the number 30 to commemorate Ume’s birthday).

As an experienced life drawing model, Ume is a consummate subject of a show that celebrates the self, identity, and how we see ourselves.

The collection of portraits, taken as a whole or individually, seem to give the viewer a glimpse into how we might see others seeing us.

Ume’s collaboration with the 30 artists includes portraying her in the same pose and a requirement that her abdominal scar must be featured.

This daily reminder of a near-death experience is symbolic to the fragility of life, and something which we may struggle to be aware of until we see it in others.

“What we see is, largely, what they see, or what we think they see. And when they turn away, when we become unseen, in a way we cease to be.”

—Elitsa Dermendzhiyska

All 30 pieces will be available for viewing on September 19-20, 2019

An online auction will be held on artsy.net via Con Artist Collective. Pre-bidding available now at https://www.artsy.net/show/con-artist-collective-30-bodies
