The Experience

During this 3-day class, you will make your own bow that is customized to you. ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED! Tools included! (Bring your own work gloves.) Bow staves are provided (typically split hickory, elm, or something similar), as well as the materials to make the string and the arrows. Please note that this class is THREE LONG days of WORK. Some finish work may need to be done on your own depending on your ability to listen and follow directions and your work ethic.

Tentative Schedule:

  • We recommend a Thursday arrival if at all possible so that you can be given starter information that evening.
  • Friday: 8:00 a.m. set up, introduce what we will be doing, start roughing out the bow stave and going over preliminary questions. Working lunch break around 12:30. Dinner break at 6:00pm ish and continued work after dinner.
  • Saturday: class starts at 8:00 a.m., work down the bow stave, make the bow string, working lunch break around 12:30, discussions/work continue through lunch, continue working on the bow, possibly begin arrows, class breaks at 6:00pm ish for dinner with continued work after dinner.
  • Sunday: class starts at 8:00 a.m., make final adjustments to bow, working lunch break around 12:30; make/finish arrows, finalize the bow by shooting it on our private range.

Hosted by the husband and wife team that make up Krieger Mountain Crafts (Joshua and Marissa Krieger), you can be provided with lodging and meals at their cozy homestead located in the rolling hills of the southern Ohio River Valley. We have private, indoor accommodations that can be ready for you when you arrive with meals included. Check out the menu below for the meals that are scheduled for your class. The restroom is shared with other class participants. These accommodations are booked on a first registered, first served basis. Make selections at check out and we will contact you regarding the spaces still available. **We will also contact you regarding making a separate payment for lodging and meals once your class space is reserved. All lodging and meal fees must be paid prior to your arrival.**

Early check-in on Thursday with meals; checkout Sunday: ADD $240 to class price

  • Check-in any time on Thursday.
  • Provided meals start with dinner Thursday, three meals on Friday, three meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Feel free to bring snacks.

Check-in Friday with meals; checkout Sunday: ADD $175 to class price

  • Check-in early Friday morning before class.
  • Provided meals start with lunch on Friday, three meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Feel free to bring snacks.

Finding your draw length:

Please use the photo below as a reference for how to measure your draw length. You will be asked to enter this information when you finalize your ticket purchase.

Note: Just reach forward; do not hunch your shoulders forward, just stand normally.

*If you have a different shooting style that requires a longer/shorter draw (while still considering the bow type being made in this class), please give us that info with some notes about it when you checkout.

Other Need to Know Info:

  • We make every effort to get the bow to your desired draw weight however we cannot guarantee you a specific poundage for your finished bow. YOU are the one making the bow. Your ability to listen and follow directions directly affect your finished product. We should be able to get within approximately 5-8 pounds of your desired draw weight.
  • Please be aware of your ACTUAL ability to draw the weight that you're looking for with THIS type of bow. These are NOT compound bows. You are actually pulling the weight with your own effort.
  • This class is NOT intended for anyone under the age of 12. Contact us FIRST if you think you have an exception.
  • There is NO child care provided.
  • There are three dogs and a cat that also live at this location. Due to this, we apologize, but we don't allow you to bring your pets.
  • You will not have cell reception while you are here. Reliable reception is available if you drive up the road. Plan accordingly.
  • THIS IS AN ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND DRUG FREE PROPERTY!
