The Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation (MCJCF) is partnering with Houston Community College - Southwest, the City of Missouri City, and local businesses to enhance our community engagement by hosting a one-day Workforce Development Symposium on Friday, June 14, 2024, 11:00am – 3:00pm at the Missouri City Campus as part of our annual activities during our MCJCF Celebration week. The symposium will include various seminars, workshops, business presentations, and a job fair.

The overarching goal of this initiative is to serve as a resource that aids in the preparation of our community’s youth to enter the workforce by providing information regarding various educational and technical programs leading to career paths at the community college level and four-year college level via bridge programs between community college and university level. The symposium will also address career paths in areas such as: police, fire, EMT/paramedic, Certified Nurse Aide, drafting, and other technical industries. The event will include a job fair to provide employment opportunities for Missouri City and Fort Bend County residents.

Still, we focus on one in particular, the “FREEDOM TREE” (located in Freedom Tree Park), which serves as a reminder of the tumultuous journey Africans faced upon their arrival to an inhospitable land. Yet, despite the prevailing conditions, they manage to accomplish so much.
