Zoönomy explores the collaboration between humans and collective bodies of nonhumans, in order to support ecological regeneration.

Welcome to the first talk from The Feral Palace series. We will be joined by Klaas Kuitenbrouwer, senior researcher in digital culture at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam and initiator of the Zoöp project. Zoöp has committed itself to learn to collaborate with nonhuman life and Klass will introduce us to Zoöp way of working. THE PRACTICE OF ZOÖNOMYIn his talk, Klass will introduce us to the Zoöp way of working, its backgrounds and discuss some characteristics of Proto-Zoöp Krater. Zoöp is short for Zoöperation, a combination of the words cooperation and zoé, the Greek word for ‘life’. A Zoöp is an organization that has committed itself to learn to collaborate with nonhuman life. A Zoöp transforms its operation step-by-step to help develop a regenerative economy, or human-inclusive ecosystem, that sustains bodies of any kind.KLAAS KUITENBROUWERKlaas Kuitenbrouwer is senior researcher in digital culture at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam and teaches theory at the Gerrit Rietveld and other academiesSince the late 1990s, he has worked at the intersections of art, design, technology and ecology. He researches, curates and lectures in themes at the touch points of these fields. In the early 2000’s he set up and curated the Mediamatic research workshops on the cultural significance of new digital technologies. He co-curated the Transnatural festivals (2010 – 2013) and worked in the field of cultural policy of digital culture at Virtueel Platform (2009 – 2013).A consistent element in his work is the intersection of different knowledge practices: technological, artistic, legal, organisational, scientific, and more-than-human. In recent years, he curated, among other programs, Garden of Machines (2015), Gardening Mars (2017), Bot Club and the Neuhaus Temporary Academy for more-than-human knowledge (2019) he co-edits the Vertical Atlas and in 2019 he initiated the Zoöp project.THE FERAL PALACE TALKSHave you ever wondered how to design for more-than-human species?
