<h2>A FRIENDS OF THE WEKIVA RIVER 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION EVENT </h2>Proceeds support projects to protect the Wekiva River, its ecosystem and wildlife, including manatees. “Mermaids, Manatees and More Wekiva River Paddle Boat Flotilla” Katie’s Landing State Park 262 Wekiva Park Dr Sanford FL 32771 Saturday, April 9th 11:00am – 3pm Join us for an action-packed day! FREE Friends of the Wekiva River t-shirts to the 1st 25 vessel registrations Grilled burgers and hotdogs for purchase from Boy Scout Troop 507 Prizes awarded for most original decorations Live music from the Crooms Academy Steel Drum BandFamily friendly scavenger hunts and craftsPaddle up the river to discover hidden springs Hike Florida trails &amp; take part in a wilderness scavenger hunt Visit with state park rangers and explore the scientific wonders of the Wekiva River and its basin Learn about how to win prizes in Wekivathlon!<h3>(***Registration required ONLY if you plan to enter in the flotilla watercraft contest. Otherwise- just show up and join the fun!***) </h3>SCHEDULE• 11:00 AM – Flotilla check-in starts• Noon – Live music. Food and drinks will be available for purchase • 2:00 - Awards ceremonyTHEMEDress your watercraft and yourself in your finest manatee Mardi Gras attire, King Neptune garb, Mermaid tail, Bird feathers or any river critter outfit that floats your boat! BASIC VESSEL DECORATIONS Vessels can be decorated with foam, plastic bottles, cardboard, and recycled materials of every kind. With a little creativity you can take whatever is around you and recycle it into something that is unique. Consider adding things that will float. A race number will be assigned to each vessel at registration the morning of the race. The numbers must be affixed so that the judges on the side of the river can clearly see it.DEADLINEAll entries must register before the day of the flotilla or before all entry slots are filled limit of 50 vessels. <h1>--------RACE RULES-------- </h1>The flotilla promotes a safe, family-oriented event. We encourage all participants to act in a responsible sportsman-like manner, obey all safety requirements and rules, assist fellow paddlers when necessary, and above all, enjoy the event. • All entries must be solely human powered and self-propelled and make use of poles, oars, paddles, paddlewheels, sails, flippers, etc. or any combination thereof. No motor boats.• The use of nails below the water line is prohibited.• Minimum vessel size must be able to support the weight of the crew.• All vessels will be inspected prior to launching and may be subject to modification at the discretion of the event staff.• Each entry must be equipped with a suitable towline.• Each participant must have a Coast Guard approved life jacket that must be worn always.• Sun-sensitive participants should wear appropriate sunscreen.• Participants should wear an appropriate hat with a large enough visor to help reduce exposure to the hot sun.• No animals allowed on any vessels.• No glass containers are allowed at any time.• All race entries must have garbage bags for their own trash. Leave No Trace.• Anyone exhibiting unsafe behavior will be disqualified.• All vessels and decorations must be removed from the river at the end of the day. EVENT SAFETYParticipants must obey all safety requirements. Remember, safety comes first! If there is an emergency and/or you see someone in trouble it is your obligation to make sure you or someone else gets to any vessel and/or participants as soon as possible. Lend a hand if it is safe to do so. Anyone acting without regard for the safety of others or themselves will be disqualified.AWARDSThe flotilla has three age group categories for the Creativity in Design award, judged by the flotilla committee and other special guest judges. Awards will be presented for each age category: Youth (6-12), Young Adult (13-19) and Adults (20+).INSPECTION Vessel will be inspected prior to launching and may be subject to modification at the discretion of the Flotilla Committee. The main focus of inspection is to ensure the safety of you and your crew. Be prepared &amp; equipped to make changes to your vessel should any issues be found. You should bring along some extra fasteners, rope, duct tape, etc.LAUNCHING FACILITIESComplete any preparations or assembly for your vessel in the parking area. Enter the launch area only after everything is in place and you are ready to get out on the water. Move your vessel away from the launch ramp as quickly as possible to make room for the other people coming in behind you. Please don’t hang around there too long. Keep everything moving. You can drive in close to the shore to unload your equipment and launch your watercraft. Afterwards you will have to move your vehicle &amp; trailer and park it in a designated parking area.YOUR SUPPORT IS WHAT MAKES US STRONG.
