While everyone is familiar with voodoo dolls from films and imagines them as a baneful magick tool, poppets, which predate voodoo dolls, can be a force for positive magick as well, such as binding, protection, fertility, love, money spells, success, healing, banishing, silencing gossip.Join us on May 24, 7:30 p.m. for Jennifer Morris's virtual workshop on poppet witchery.Pay What You Wish/Donation: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/294418412397Poppets are dolls in folk magick and witchcraft with the doll representing an individual to help, heal or harm with the intent that the action performed upon the effigy will be transferred based on sympathetic magick. The term "poppet" comes from Middle English, referring to a small doll or child. In ancient times, the Egyptians made wax dolls to curse the Pharoah, and the classical Greeks had their own version, the Kolossoi, for restraining ghosts or dangerous deities, to bind two lovers together, or to turn the tides of war.We will also discuss Japanese "hoko" guardian talismanic figures, West African fetishes (talismans), and American Hoodoo folk magic use of magickal dolls.This class will detail how to make and use poppets as seasonal dolls, as with Brigid dolls celebrating spring, fairy dolls at Yuletide, as well as exploring spirit dolls, ancestor dolls, kitchen witches (made with a potato or carved root), corn dollies (to ensure bountiful harvest), clay dolls (like Voodoo Dolls with pins for love magick or baneful spells).We will provide a pattern prior to the session to create your own cloth poppet which you can charge, stuff and complete in class, providing your own paper, fabric, pins, scissors, stuffing, plus your imagination, and your intention.Jennifer Morris is a certified Crystal Healer/Teacher, Reiki Master, Energy Healer, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
