This opportunity is open to anyone in the universe who has a reliable Internet connection.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Are the tutoring sessions online or in-person?</h3><h3>A: If both the tutor and tutee agree, that&#x27;s fine. In-person mentoring sessions are held at our office in the Mapo District of Seoul. Otherwise, online.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: I&#x27;m not a native English speaker, may I apply to be a tutor?</h3><h3>A: Present yourself to the refugees. They are the ones who get to choose in FSI. Complete the application, send the required documents, make a one-minute video introducing yourself, wait for the Matching session results.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: I don&#x27;t speak Korean. May I still apply as a tutor?</h3><h3>A: Yes! We prefer tutors who don&#x27;t try to use Korean with refugees in FSI. I think it would help my classes if I used some Korean. Would that be okay?</h3><h3>A: Nope! There are many organizations and institutes in South Korea that agree with you. Good luck finding them, <a href="https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/opinion/2018/01/626_243100.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">FSI has adopted an English-only approach</a> and wants to work with volunteers who embrace that approach.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Is there is a particular day of the week that the one-to-one sessions should be held?</h3><h3>A: Nope! Volunteers announce when they are available, the refugees choose based on their availability. </h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Why is this a pilot project?</h3><h3>A: We are re-launching our tutoring project. We would like to spend the first three months talking with volunteers and students. Then after that, we will develop the project based on the needs of North Korean refugee authors and speakers.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Is there a curriculum provided?</h3><h3>A: There&#x27;s a long answer with many twists and turns. The short answer is: &quot;No. Tutoring is based on the particular needs of students.&quot;</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: I have my own materials and curriculum. May I use them?</h3><h3>A: Certainly! If they are not a good fit, sure! If the student is bored with your materials, then try something else...</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Are the Matching sessions online?</h3><h3>A: Yes!</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Why are there different Matching sessions dates?</h3><h3>A: Without our donors, FSI would not exist. That means, this opportunity would not exist. So we give them the first shot to be chosen. If you haven&#x27;t fundraised or donated before, you should get started now! This is a pilot project, so these first three months will help us discover what makes sense for most students and volunteers.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: How flexible will the schedule be? Can it change, or will it be set from the beginning? Or does it just depend on the students&#x27; needs?</h3><h3>A: The volunteer tutors identify when they are available, then the students choose based on that.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Why is state-level ID required?</h3><h3>A: We need to know who everyone is for the protection of our students, staff and volunteers. We are an official organization registered in both the USA and South, not a casual social club. We have had more than 1,000 volunteers tutor and mentor North Korean refugees. Would it make sense for us to not know who the people are that we are introducing to North Korean refugees? Our students put trust in us as an organization, it would be reckless and stupid for us to not who everyone is.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: I have heard that FSI (formerly TNKR) is a super fantastic organization with years of experience educating and empowering North Koreans. Why do you need a pilot project?</h3><h3>A: Yes, that is correct, we have a great history. Our focus has changed somewhat, with public speaking being our main activity. With that focus, tutoring is now a process, not our main focus.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: Great! I have an absolutely wonderful PDF of my resume.</h3><h3>A: Because we collect all of the resumes to put them in one neat document to share with the refugee applicants. If it is PDF then we can&#x27;t copy and paste them into one document to share with refugees.</h3><h3></h3><h3>Q: And why is there a one-page maximum with the resume?</h3><h3>A: This dates back to a volunteer who submitted a 12 page resume. If we have 20 applicants, and each person submits two or three pages, then refugees could have to wade through 50 pages.
