Healing Arts Reception: In Observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Awakenings provides survivors of sexual violence with a trauma-informed, inclusive art-making experience that encourages healing.We believe the power of art-making as healing is amplified when we integrate into a creative community. We help survivors of sexual violence heal through art by providing year-round art workshops, storytelling events, and more at our studio space in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. Our programming allows survivors to connect with each other through communal, healing arts activities in a safe, trauma-informed environment.

Join Alderman Martin and Awakenings for a Healing Arts Reception to observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month and to open the Legacy exhibit in the 47th Ward Office. Partake in a short program and interactive activity. Small bites and drinks will be provided.Awakenings is a nonprofit organization located in Ravenswood dedicated to creating a physical and virtual artistic space in which to engage in an open dialogue that furthers awareness and understanding of sexual violence and promotes healing of survivors through the arts.This exhibit showcases Awakenings’ permanent collection of survivor artwork through a historical lens. Members of the Awakenings community act as our docents to guide us by sharing their modern interpretations and responses to the work.We hope that this exhibit inspires introspection and creative self-reflection as we continue to build our individual as well as collective legacies.
