Join Asia Society Northern California as it hosts its second The Long Conversation, a collaboration with the <a href="https://longnow.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Long Now Foundation</a> as part of <a href="https://coalandice.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Asia Society's COAL + ICE exhibition</a> on Monday, March 21, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Pacific. This will be a virtual event with live rolling 15-minute conversations with experts and leaders from climatology, journalism, energy policy, and U.S.-China relations, in a relay of two-person dialogues focused on the climate crisis – its causes and consequences. Speakers include:<ul><li>Kevin Rudd, Asia Society President and CEO</li><li>Orville Schell, Arthur Ross Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society </li><li>Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of LanzaTech</li><li>Fan Dai, Executive Director, California-China Climate Institute at University of California, Berkeley</li><li>Chenjian Li, University Chair Professor, Peking University </li><li>Bin Ouyang, Associate Director, Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society</li><li>Zander Rose, Executive Director and Secretary of the Board, The Long Now Foundation</li></ul>Registration is free and open to the global community. Suggested donation is USD 25.00.The best minds on climate change will engage in a series of 15-minute rolling conversations. Speaker A will interview Speaker B for 15 minutes, after which Speaker B will interview Speaker C and so on. Each conversation will involve two experts from different backgrounds with a focus on China's energy policy, its relationship to environmental activism, or the future of technology.This conversation is part of Asia Society’s larger COAL + ICE exhibition held by Orville Schell, the Arthur Ross Director of the <a href="https://asiasociety.org/center-us-china-relations" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Center on U.S.-China Relations</a> from ​​March 15 - April 22, 2022 in Washington D.C. The exhibition will hold 48 projectors that will illuminate the 30,000-square-foot exhibition space built on the John F. Kennedy Center of Performing Arts in REACH Plaza. Additionally, a vibrant six-week festival of events will transform the center of the exhibition into a stage for music, theater, panel discussions, art-making, and more.The Long Conversation was held previously by Asia Society Northern California and The Long Now Foundation at the Fort Mason Center for Arts &amp; Culture in San Francisco in 2018. The event was part of the U.S.-premiere of COAL + ICE, coinciding with California Governor Jerry Brown’s Global Climate Action Summit, and included a three-week climate festival of dance, music, spoken word, food, family activities, films, educational programming, and creative dialogue. This will be a webinar program; attendees will not appear on camera.SPEAKERSThe Honorable Kevin Rudd is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Asia Society, effective January 1st, 2021 and current President of the Asia Society Policy Institute. He served as Australia’s 26th Prime Minister (2007-2010, 2013) and as Foreign Minister (2010-2012). He is also a leading international authority on China. Orville Schell is the Arthur Ross Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society in New York. He is a former professor and Dean at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Schell is the author of 15 books, 10 of them about China, and a contributor to numerous edited volumes. Jennifer Holmgren is CEO of LanzaTech. Under Jennifer’s guidance, LanzaTech is developing a variety of platform chemicals and fuels, including the world’s first alternative jet fuel derived from industrial waste gases. Prior to LanzaTech, Jennifer was VP and General Manager of the Renewable Energy and Chemicals business unit at UOP LLC, a Honeywell Company. While at UOP, she was a key driver of UOP’s leadership in low carbon aviation biofuels.Fan Dai is Executive Director, California-China Climate Institute at University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Dai has played a significant role leading California’s collaboration with China on climate, energy and environment. She was appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr as Special Advisor on China. Under Brown, Dr. Dai chaired the state’s China Interagency Working Group, and acted as the state’s liaison on its critical economic and environmental initiatives on China. Chenjian Li is the University Professor at Peking University. He is on the Advisory Board for China of Cornell University, and the Advisory Committee for China related work for Eli Lilly and Company. Li’s scientific research focuses on exploring the molecular and cellular basis of higher brain functions and neurological diseases, and therapeutic development of cancer treatment. Ouyang Bin is the Associate Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society, where his major interests concentrate on China’s political transformation, state-society relations, and the geopolitics of Northeast Asia. Prior to joining Asia Society, Ouyang worked as a journalist in China.Alexander (Zander) Rose is Executive Director &amp; Secretary of the Board for The Long Now Foundation. Alexander is an industrial designer and has been working with The Long Now Foundation and computer scientist Danny Hillis since 01997 to build a monument scale, all mechanical 10,000 Year Clock. Alexander speaks about the work of The Long Now Foundation all over the world at venues ranging from the TED conference to corporations and government agencies.
