No more trying to be mindful alone.The Hive exists to develop creative, compassionate, and mindfully-engaged citizens in the Cincinnati region through small group classes and workshops. We have curated a collective of proven teachers, facilitators, and spiritual directors to help guide your learning in mindfulness, contemplation, art and action. We hope you'll try a class and like it enough to become a regular member. Your partnership helps make this nonprofit possible.(As a social enterprise, the Hive shares our story with photos of classes and events. Click here to join today.</a></p><h2>Contemplative Stitching: Visual Poetry</h2><h3>Domain: Creative Expression</h3><p>This workshop encompasses all levels of needlework experience. Templates of symbols will be provided or participants can draw their own designs. A variety of techniques and methods will be explored. We will be creating expressive wearable pins and patches.</p><p>All materials will be provided. You may want to bring any sentimental beads, buttons, charms, broken jewelry, or fabric. These personal tokens can further embellish your unique and personal textile expression.</p><p>Ellen Cohen Scott’s personal statement: </p><p>I believe creative expression is an important aspect that nurtures the soul. In my lifetime, the visual arts have provided this gratifying endeavor. My art pieces are created with an intention to contemplate and comfort. In my workshops I seek to share my knowledge, experience, and techniques. My intention is that participants will have the skills to continue the practice of hand stitching beyond this workshop. The journey of creating whenever and wherever is a beneficial expression. I call it “visual poetry.”</p><p>Ellie received her education here in Cincinnati through Walnut Hills High School where she was an Art History AP student. She went on to Boston University as a Fine Arts/Art History major, and continued postgraduate work with an MFA from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. Ellie’s works have been exhibited in museums, numerous galleries, and public art locations, as well as corporate headquarters and other site specific pieces. Individuals may choose to wear a mask for personal protection, and as always, we ask anyone who is feeling sick or has a high temperature to not attend until they are recovered.
