MakerSpace Community Advisory Team Meeting #1

Making a DifferenceThe Community is our Classroom. This signifies that our teaching is deeply rooted not only in solid theoretical foundations but also in the rich knowledge drawn from the community and region by the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES). We offer various research programs through the Water Resources Institute and the 143-acre Firebird Research Farm in Beltsville, MD. CAUSES offers community outreach programs for all ages. Our community education programs through our land-grant centers are: (1) The Center for Urban Agriculture & Gardening Education, (2) The Center for Urban Resilience, Innovation and Infrastructure which includes the Water Resources Research Institute, and (3) The Center for Nutrition Diet & Health which includes the Institute of Gerontology and Snap-Ed. In addition, the college provides innovative academic programs in urban architecture and community development, urban sustainability, health education, nursing, and nutrition and dietetics.

We're creating a MakerSpace! Join our Community Advisory Team and share your insights on how to provide STEAM resources to the DC community.

Here at UDC-CAUSES (College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability &amp; Environmental Sciences), we are establishing a Community Advisory Team to ensure community voices and insights are centered in this MakerSpace system and invite you to join us! This Team will include folks such as yourself and other community leaders who are committed to ensuring effective, innovative, inclusive education in all 8 District wards. Our goal is to create a community MakerSpace system that serves as a hub where STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) resources, knowledge, and people power are shared with all who wish to collaborate, with an emphasis on historically underserved and under-resourced students, families, and communities. We wish to hear from you and work with you to equip those who live and learn in D.C. with unique STEAM resources and opportunities! In this first meeting, all we need is your attendance! Our current MakerSpace team will share details, updates, and the overall vision of this project and process thus far. We invite all participants to share any comments, questions, or concerns they have regarding the creation of this MakerSpace system! All perspectives are welcome and encouraged!
