In celebration of the UMS presentation of <a href="https://ums.org/performance/parable-of-the-sower/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower</a>, a live opera based on the 1993 science fiction novel of the same name, <a href="https://www.shopbooksweet.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Booksweet </a>is proud to partner with our northside neighbors to explore the book’s themes of self-reliance and embracing change.On Sunday, March 20, from 1-2 pm, we’ll meet at <a href="https://www.a2schools.org/a2steam" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">A2 STEAM @ Northside</a> (912 Barton Dr), a K-8 public school located less than a mile from Booksweet. Here, we’ll meet with <a href="https://www.a2schools.org/Page/5135" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jean Wilson </a>and <a href="https://www.a2schools.org/Page/13769" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nathan Smead</a>, two middle school educators at STEAM who are in the process of transforming the school yard into a self-sustaining edible forest with their students. Using the concepts of permaculture, a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature, Wilson and Smead began building new visions for the school yard eight years ago and have worked steadily to create an outdoor classroom, garden beds, a three sisters garden, rain gardens and permaculture beds.At this gathering we’ll tour the A2STEAM gardens, learn about permaculture, and discover new ways to bring the next generation into the work of living in harmony with nature. You’ll also have a chance to shop for seed balls and seed bookmarks created by A2 STEAM students who are raising money for fruit trees. This event is free and open to the public.
