Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, a vibrant communal space in the Arts District that links art and architecture with a dynamic events program, is the first West Coast outpost of Hauser & Wirth, the international gallery devoted to contemporary art and modern masters. Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles fosters public dialogue with the arts by supporting and collaborating with local nonprofits and universities, as well as through a range of activities that engage the city’s diverse population.The gallery aims to make a lasting contribution to the Los Angeles community by sharing its resources and offering a variety of family, youth, and adult programs inspired by the gallery’s visionary artists. The Los Angeles location has expanded its events program to include dance and music performances, film screenings, family activities, maker workshops, and artist-led conversations.Occupying a former flour mill, the Los Angeles gallery site includes Manuela, the onsite restaurant, a chicken coop and urban garden, and murals celebrating the Arts District’s history. Lily Blue Simmons will perform an original monologue on Gary Simmons' sculptural installation ‘Recapturing Memories of the Black Ark.’

Join us in the open-air courtyard at Hauser &amp; Wirth for a unique performance by Lily Blue Simmons, daughter of Gary Simmons, on his sculptural installation ‘Recapturing Memories of the Black Ark’ (2014 – ongoing).Simmons will perform an original monologue depicting the loneliness, expected perfectionism, and pressure experienced by young females today as well as the struggle between femininity and intellect. ‘Recapturing Memories of the Black Ark’ (2014 – ongoing) will be on view in the gallery’s outdoor courtyard through 22 May. Both a literal and metaphorical platform for conversations, music, and performance, this work is inspired by Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s studio and is comprised of amalgamated materials sourced from the Tremé neighborhood of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Originally shown as part of the 2014 Prospect.3 biennial in New Orleans, ‘Black Ark’ has been presented at Art Basel Unlimited, Miami, art space Southern Exposure in San Francisco, and Desert X in Coachella Valley, California. Reservations and proof of vaccination upon arrival are required.After the performance, dine at Manuela, the gallery&#x27;s onsite restaurant.
