Whether you are a writer, painter, sculptor, musician, or visual artist, making a living as an artist means running your own business or being an entrepreneur. There is more than one path to a life filled with doing what you love. Learn from four local Austin artists the twists and turns, peaks and valleys of the formation and growth of their unique creative businesses.Submit your questions ahead of time to smallbiz@austintexas.gov. Moderator, Calder Kamin, <a href="https://www.calderkamin.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Calder Kamin </a>Artist, educator, and advocate, Calder Kamin transforms trash into beautifully crafted creatures and opportunities to inspire others to be creative and courageous about the future. She is on the Board of Austin Creative Reuse and is currently an Artist-in-Residence with Landmark Apartments and a 2022 Amon Carter Community Artist in Fort Worth, TX.

<h2>Meet your panelists</h2>Rick Van Dyke, <a href="https://www.rickvandykestudio.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rick Van Dyke Studio</a> Rick's style is organic. He is obsessed with pattern, texture, and color. Rick wants his pots to look like they are alive, that they grew or were hatched from eggs. Rick is a naturalist, a gardener, a teacher, and an artist/maker. He owns Fireseed Clay Art Studios, a working community of over 30 potters, making everything from dinnerware to sculpture, is part of Thornton Road Studios, a large artist collective. Fabian Villa, <a href="https://essentialscreative.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Essentials Creative </a>Essentials Creative is a multimedia collective producing holistic applied arts experiences. These multi-faceted events incorporate photography, fashion, graphic design, video, projection, animation, and installation. We create a platform for underrepresented artists to express themselves and find support within their field. Misa Yamamoto, <a href="https://www.misa-yamamoto.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Misa Yamamoto</a>Misa is a Graphic Designer and Art Director based in Austin TX and part of the art collective <a href="https://essentialscreative.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Essentials Creative</a>. Misa graduated from Texas State University Communication Design program in 2012 and is currently a senior designer at the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas in Austin. She has strong arts and designs professionally skilled in Branding &amp; Identity, Typography, and UI/UX Design.
