InnerSource SecurityWe often get questions about implementing InnerSource on the topic of security. Having well thought-out InnerSource security practices can not only dispel security concerns, but can also faciltate an organizations’ overall security goals through improved processes, increased documentation and auditabilty. Come along to our Community Call to hear from Vishal Kulshrestha (Verizon), Elspeth Minty (Morgan Stanley) &amp; Conley Rogers (GitLab) to hear about how they have tackled the challenge of developing securely while collaborating across the business. Hear how this impacted their company data policy and how they created new processes to securely scan projects before they could be InnerSourced.[10 mins] Presentation from Elspeth Minty (Morgan Stanley)At first glance, the idea of making your code public and allowing anyone interested to contribute may seem counter to promoting good security practices. In this session I’ll be discussing why this assumption is not only incorrect, in fact the opposite is true: InnerSource practices promote good security practices.[25 mins] Community Discussion: This part of the community call will be held under the Chatham House Rule. Vishal Kulshrestha is a Cloud Engineer at Verizon, started as a Developer and then gained hands-on experience with a few flavors of &quot;Ops&quot;: TechOps/InfraOps, DevOps, CloudOps. Currently working alongside various internal portfolios and external vendor teams in evaluating and onboarding appropriate tools to complete the larger picture and fill in any gaps - and these include InnerSource, Open Source and Custom Vendor products essential in establishing a vibrant and dynamic infrastructure to accommodate new generations of engineers and managers. Knowledge in Ops, familiarity with vertical business units and vendor market helps in carrying out this role efficiently.Elspeth Minty

Elspeth is the global lead of the Java Platform Engineering team at Morgan Stanley. She joined Morgan Stanley in London in 2001 and worked in Shanghai for 8 years before moving to Montreal in 2018. Elspeth has been a hands-on technologist throughout her career, working extensively with C++ and Java.Conley Rogers

Conley Rogers is a Technical Account Manager for Enterprise at GitLab where he has the pleasure of partnering with GitLab users and helping them achieve meaningful ROI. Prior to joining GitLab, he ran the global technology InnerSource program at Verizon where there were heavy-handed legal and security hurdles that had to be overcome. He’s passionate about the work the InnerSource Commons Foundation does and highly encourages his customer’s to adopt InnerSource in order to accelerate their DevOps maturity and improve the developer experience. In addition to the ISPO, Conley has worked on DevSecOps and Cloud transformations in multiple business verticals at Verizon. The result of that work was crafting an end to end measurement strategy that focused on outcome oriented success metrics in order to improve developer productivity and better align the business and IT departments.&quot;
