Our diverse population is full of rich cultures, and not only do we want to foster culturally informed practices in our own work, but we want other providers in our area to have the tools to do so as well. Join us for part one of our three-part Meeting the Moment series exploring critical approaches to support healthy early childhood development in these current times.The past two years of high-stress, isolation, and overwhelming events have impacted families everywhere. What if the tools families needed to support their child’s development and build strong bonds during this next phase of the pandemic were right at their fingertips? In this 60-minute learn-at-lunch session, Dr. Marva L. Lewis will dive into: <ul><li>Therapeutic cultural routines that use a Talk, Touch, and ListenⓇ approach to build strong child-parent attachment and prevent child abuse. </li><li>Examples of how diverse service providers can introduce cultural routines, such as mealtime and hair combing, to build these approaches into their ongoing work with children and families. </li></ul>Then you will get to ask her your important questions in a 10-minute Q&amp;A session. Dr. Marva L. Lewis focuses on creating culturally sensitive research methods around child abuse and neglect, and racism-based stress. She uses culture-centered methods to help prevent the legacies of historical trauma, like slavery, from being passed down from generation to generation. Her research focuses on issues of stigmas surrounding hair type and Colorism (valuing light skin color over darker skin tones). Her ultimate interest is the prevention of child abuse and neglect while strengthening parent-child attachment through the ritual and routine of hair combing. Dr. Lewis wants to understand methods and systems for community-based parent support.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________Please join us throughout this spring for the opportunity to hear from leaders who are shaping equitable and innovative approaches to meet the moment for our youngest children as we collectively work to heal from the past two years of the pandemic and support their healthy development. This three-part series will explore ways to: <ul><li>Adapt early childhood interventions to be culturally-centered for children and families </li><li>Navigate the collective trauma of the pandemic and differentiate between trauma and developmental delay in young children</li><li>Foster resilience with families to prevent and reduce abuse and strengthen parent-child attachment and child development </li></ul>
