About this event

  • 2 hours 45 minutes

Critics Choice Award Nominee for Best First Documentary Feature and winner of over a dozen film festivals awards, 26.2 to Life explores the transformative power of San Quentin State Prison's 1000 Mile Club, in which incarcerated men train for and run an annual marathon on the dirt and concrete path circling the prison yard (105 dizzying laps to complete this race). Through intimate access behind the walls of the infamous correctional facility, the film confronts the meaning of personal transformation and rehabilitation alongside the greater crisis of the disproportionate incarceration rates and troubling recidivism statistics within the American criminal justice system.

Join us for this unique event which will feature this powerful documentary film currently streaming on ESPN+ followed by an informative panel discussion. Meet Markelle “the Gazelle” Taylor, one of the elite runners highlighted in the film who will be in Colorado Springs to run in the Garden of the Gods 10 Mile Race. Learn about Life Strides Foundation, launched by Melissa Stapanowich in 2023, a local nonprofit program that is replicating this transformative model of reform through sports within the juvenile justice system in the state of Colorado.

Hosted by the TDB Family Foundation in partnership with the Colorado Running Company and Rocky Mountain Women’s Film.

“Each of us is more than the worst thing we’ve ever done . . . this idea is critical to understanding what justice requires, what fairness requires.”

Bryan Stevenson, Founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative
