UNMANNED INSIGHT: Connecting Remote Communities - Delivery by Drone

Advancing the unmanned systems and robotics community through education, advocacy and leadership promoting market growth.

AUVSI New England Chapter

Drone delivery demonstrates real value and is coming to New England.

Skyports’s Andrew Giacini will describe how drone delivery is being employed around the world, and in particular, describe how drone delivery has successfully been employed in Scotland to dramatically reduce transport times of medical samples. The capability for drone delivery has most recently been tested in Massachusetts through a partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Drone Program, demonstrating how Skyports’s drone could connect Cape Cod with Martha’s Vineyard and other remote island communities after a storm or to support immediate medical needs. Andrew will also describe the larger Skyports effort to expand beyond small package delivery to enable advanced air mobility “vertiports.”

Andrew Giacini currently serves as Skyports’s Regulatory Affairs Lead for the Americas. In this role, he contributes to standards-setting, policy generation, and Skyports’s adherence to Federal and local regulations in its drones as a service business and its vertiport design, development, and operations business. Prior to joining Skyports, Andrew served as Governmental Affairs and External Outreach Advisor for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) during which time he sat on the agency’s Executive Board and performed the duties of Assistant Administrator. Andrew was the principal advisor to the FAA and US Department of Transportation on matters concerning Congress, industry groups, and other governmental agencies—Federal, state, and local. His work included advising the agency on the return of the Boeing 737 MAX to service, the implementation of several public laws, and the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Andrew previously worked for two Members of Congress, including the former Chairman of Transportation and Infrastructure, focusing on transportation, energy, and technology policy. Andrew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Economics) from the University of Florida.
