Curator Conversations: The Spanish Civil War

Since 1991, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation has worked in partnership with the Wisconsin Veterans Museum to provide educational opportunities and services designed to tell the stories of Wisconsin's service members and to illuminate the role they played in shaping this nation's history.Each year the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation provides funds in direct support of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum's exhibits, programs, publications, preservation efforts, and artifact purchases. It is able to do so through tax-deductible donations received from individuals, corporations and businesses; grants from private and corporate foundations; and individual bequests.

Learn about  the Spanish Civil War's impact on World War II and the Wisconsinites who volunteered to fight in the Abraham Lincoln Battalion.

In Madison’s James Madison Park is a small monument, one of 4 in the United States to the International Brigades that fought in the 1936-39 Spanish Civil War. It lists the names of over 40 Wisconsinites who fought for the Spanish Republic in the conflict, many seeing their first action 85 years ago this February and March as part of the famous Abraham Lincoln Battalion. Join Chris Kolakowski and Kevin Hampton for a look at the Spanish Civil War, the Lincoln Battalion and its members, and how the fighting influenced World War II. Program funding made possible by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation through the generous support of Generac Power Systems.This event is appropriate for all ages.
