Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-winning American classic sets us in an old farmhouse, seemingly perfect looking from the outside. But the backyard is full of dead crops, and the interior is full of buried secrets and family tragedies that manifest in anger, resentment, confusion, and denial. So what happens when a previous inhabitant returns after six years with new hobbies, a new girlfriend, and something to prove? Shepard’s fierce dialogue, paired with his pockets of humor, takes us through the trials and tribulations of this family by exposing the failed American Dream of a weakened family patriarch, and the dangerous snowball effect that occurs when secrets are unearthed. Buried Child is an unforgettable commentary on family systems that will leave you haunted by the thought of what could have been. There will be a brief 15 minute intermission between Act 2 & 3. Content Warning: This show includes depictions of death, violence, and other mature subject matter, as well as alcohol and drug use. There will be loud noises throughout the show (thunder, glass breaking). FLASH WARNING: The use of flashing lights will depict lightning in Act 3, towards the very end of the show. Emmanuel College requires all audience members to provide proof of vaccination, cards and ID's will be checked at the door!
