Project One Golf Academy Junior Golf LeagueRecently we have had many questions from site visitors on how to go about starting a middle school golf team. The reality is that there are many middle schools in the U.S. that do not support either boys or girls middle school golf. If you are interested in starting a golf program at your school, here are the steps you need to take to turn your vision into a reality.•	Gauging interest – surveying: One of the most important steps in creating a golf team is to see how interested other students at your middle school are in golf. A suggestion would be asking the students if they play golf and if they would be interested in playing on a team. At lunch, you can set up a table where students can sign their name and provide contact information to learn more about becoming part of the team.•	Speaking with Project One Golf Academy: Also approaching your school’s athletic director is important to find out if it would be financially possible to support a middle school golf team. Project One Golf Academy and Booster Clubs would be important groups to get on your side as well – our main purpose is to develop support for newer sport teams. The booster club could be a great outlet to help with raising money for your new golf team.•	Securing a home golf course: Having a home golf course to play and practice on will be a must. Approaching local public and private courses about using their facilities is the best approach. A suggestion would be to work something out with the course pro or superintendent such as helping clean up the course during spring or fall clean up. Small volunteer work around the course can be an easy way to keep costs down for your school. Home Course will be Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis Club•	Finding a coach: Securing a coach for the team is crucial. A suggestion would be to ask around to different parents who either play or are passionate about golf and if they would be willing to step up. Local PGA or LPGA professionals at golf courses could also be some great people to approach. Finding someone who has been competitive in golf is a bonus, but not a must have. Coaches will be provided by Project One Golf AcademyThe purpose of the POGA Junior Golf League is to provide an outlet for our junior golfers in the Metro Atlanta region. We have noticed a void when it comes to middle school golf in several counties especially Dekalb County and our mission is to bridge that gap and provide healthy exercise and outdoor activities for our youth. An active mind and body are also a healthy mind and body.The league will be open to all 6th-8th grade age juniors that desire to participate in competitive golf while also learning life skills and STEM principles. The home course will be Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis Club 2706 Bouldercrest Road SE, Atl, Ga 30316.League play will consist of team format traditional stroke play. The league will be a six week tournament format with one practice day on Wednesday from 4-6pm and tournament play on Sundays from 3-5pm.We will be adhering to social distancing practices and mask are encouraged for everyone participating. Juniors are allowed to bring a pull golf cart if they desire also. Carts will be available for parents at a nominal fee with prior notice given to the golf course. We encourage parents to participate and be part of the learning process as long as they can maintain courtesy and fairness among all players.We will have a team session championship match at the end of the 6-week session. Teams can consist of both boys and girls. And team parent volunteers that help with getting the juniors through the session of the day along with the coach designated to that team.
