True Story Theateris a nonprofit improv theater company.   Our mission is to promote social healing through theatre by building empathy, respect, and understanding in the honoring of true stories.Come to a performance: A few volunteers from the audience share what’s important to them related to the theme of the show. Actors listen deeply then spontaneously transform the stories into theater, portraying the heart of what they heard using dialogue, movement, music and song.  From this simple interaction, people laugh, cry and experience surprising insights.Try a drop-in c﻿lass: Anyone interested is welcome--no theatre experience necessary. LexPride invites you to a FREE online Playback Theatre performance with True Story Theater: LGBTQIA+ Stories of Support and Affirmation.

<ul><li>All LGBTQIA+ youth, seniors, family, friends and allies ages 12-100+ are welcome. </li><li>No charge, thanks to our sponsors!</li><li>Please register in advance to receive the Zoom link.</li></ul>In this free, interactive performance, we will share stories of LGBTQIA+ people supporting and being supported by family - whatever the words family and support means to you. Everyone, at every age and stage of life, needs to feel affirmed by their loved ones for who they are. Here&#x27;s a chance to learn from each other&#x27;s successes and challenges. As an LGBTQIA+ person, when have you felt deeply supported and affirmed in your identity? What did that look like? As a family member, when have you struggled to support and affirm an LGBTQIA+ loved one, and what have successes looked like? How do these experiences look and feel different at different ages or within diverse family relationships? During this event, the facilitator will invite audience members from various generations to share important moments from their own lives related to the theme. On the spot, True Story Theater actors will empathetically embody the essence of what was shared, using music, song, movement, dialogue, and scenes. After each enactment, the person who shared is invited to comment on whether seeing their story reflected feels true to their experience. This will be an event filled with creativity, warmth and insight as the actors strive to capture the heart of the stories we share and help us process them in community. LexPride has enjoyed True Story Theater performances on many themes. At these shows, participants and witnesses often laugh, cry, feel connected to each other, and get fresh insights about their lives and community. This intergenerational event is sponsored by LexPride as part of our Celebrating LGBTQ+ Seniors project, which is supported by a grant from the Dana Home Foundation. It is cosponsored by Lexington Senior Services, Arlington Council on Aging, and Arlington LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission.
