Join us for the Celebrating Black Excellence Awards featuring special entertainment highlighting the African diaspora.

The City will hold a virtual awards ceremony honoring Black professionals in Santa Monica for outstanding leadership and service. Emceed by Downtown Santa Monica Commissioner Ericka Lesley, the event will also showcase South African dance performances featuring celebrity choreographer and dancer Lindiwe Rose. Lindiwe will be joined by dancers Thando Skwatsha, Sihle Vilakazi, Quinton Tex Lover, Yvonne Wema, Naul Jackson, and J. Ericka Lesley is an equity advocate who has been working within the community for over ten years giving voice to our unheard residents and our unhoused neighbors ensuring that their voices are heard at the table. As the chair of the Black Agenda, she is assisting/ facilitating the vision of assuring that the injustices of systemic racism are brought to the forefront. Ericka has served the Community as the Co-chair of the Education Committee of the Santa Monica/Venice NAACP, Co-Chair of the Intercultural Equity &amp; Excellence Committee, Chair of the Parent Connection Group and as a member of the Martin Luther King Westside Committee just to name a few.

Lindiwe Rose is a South African choreographer and dancer residing in Los Angeles. Her choreography specialty includes South African dance, jazz, modern and hip hop, and her dance training includes but is not limited to ballet, popping, advanced two modern, hip hop, and South African - Bhenga, Kwasa Kwasa, Sbujwa and Afro Fusion. She has choreographed and danced for some of the world's biggest talents, including Burna Boy, Adekulne Gold, will.i.am, Wale, and at popular shows including the American Music Awards. In addition to dance and choreography, she is also a singer, actress and songwriter.
