Making a DifferenceThe Community is our Classroom. This signifies that our teaching is deeply rooted not only in solid theoretical foundations but also in the rich knowledge drawn from the community and region by the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES). We offer various research programs through the Water Resources Institute and the 143-acre Firebird Research Farm in Beltsville, MD. CAUSES offers community outreach programs for all ages. Our community education programs through our land-grant centers are: (1) The Center for Urban Agriculture & Gardening Education, (2) The Center for Urban Resilience, Innovation and Infrastructure which includes the Water Resources Research Institute, and (3) The Center for Nutrition Diet & Health which includes the Institute of Gerontology and Snap-Ed. In addition, the college provides innovative academic programs in urban architecture and community development, urban sustainability, health education, nursing, and nutrition and dietetics.

Also, participants of this workshop will learn what nutrients and ingredients are required on the nutrition facts label by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.Workshop participants will receive an electronic certificate of completion 7 to 10 days after completing the workshop.Credentials Earned: This is a non-credit workshop.What You Will Learn: •	New changes on the nutrition facts label.•	The difference between serving and portion size.•	How to determine the number of calories consumed.•	The importance of the nutrients listed on the nutrition facts label.•	Why is the daily value important?•	What vitamins are required on the nutrition facts label.•	Listing of ingredients according to amounts.•	Understanding claims (nutrient, health, and structure-function) listed on food and beverage items.Who should participate? Health enthusiasts 18 years and older, those who do not read the nutrition facts label, personal grocery shoppers, or anyone who consumes items with a nutrition facts label.
