The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.The Sound Room is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, a  501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on promoting the Arts.

The Sound Room

The Sound Room presents another great evening of classical music. Mélanie Clapiès (violin) and James Jaffe (cello) take you along the paths of a forgotten folklore through the works of Belá Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, J.S. Bach, and traditional Scottish jigs. You’ll hear an incredible contrast in styles, yet there’s something rhythmic, colorful, nostalgic, and effervescent to be found in each piece.Cellist James Jaffe connects with audiences, colleagues, and composers through music. Chamber music appearances have taken him to the Robert Mann String Quartet Institute in Manhattan, Beijing’s Central Conservatory of Music, and Switzerland and France on concert tours. In addition to being a prolific performer, James serves as Artistic Director of Festival Rolland, a summer chamber music festival in Burgundy, France. An enthusiastic interpreter of new music, he has collaborated with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky and performed Chinary Ung’s Khse Buon for a Cleveland concert series featuring the work of displaced composers.James will be joined by Mélanie Clapiès . Born in Paris, Mélanie Clapiès is a violinist who cultivates a unique solo and chamber music career worldwide. A versatile and fluid artist, her collaborators have included musicians such as Anthony Marwood, Roger Tapping, and John Myerscough, Pavel Vernikov, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Victor Julien-Laferrière, Adam Laloum, Guillaume Vincent, and conductors Carolyn Kuan and Louis Lohraseb. She performs regularly in venues such as Le Poisson Rouge, Carnegie Hall, and National Sawdust and has participated in festivals in the United States including Yellow Barn, in France at Colmar, Musique en roue libre in Arras, the Festival de Pâques and the Août Musical in Deauville, la Roque d’Anthéron a part of the Trio Siddhartha, in Italy at the Salon Romantique of the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice, “Suona Francese” in Naples, Portogruaro, in Spain at the festival “Fondation Monteleon” in Leon, and in Algeria, Malta, and RussiaDoors open 1 hour before the show.
