Learn fundamentals of interactive design and dive into writing a branching narrative.

A four week in-depth class exploring branching narrative structure. Week one introduces the basic principles of game design. Students come up with a game concept for a branching narrative game and then develop the idea on paper over the next three classes. At the end, we workshop the design.<ul><li>No programming knowledge required.</li><li>Class hours: Saturdays, Feb 12-March 5, from 1pm-3:30pm Pacific Time.</li><li>Class is taught over Zoom.</li><li>Zoom link sent out 24 hours before class starts.</li></ul>Maureen has published four novels and two collections of short stories. She’s the winner of the James Tiptree Award (now the Otherwise Award), a Hugo for Best Short Story, and was a finalist for The Story Award. She is an interactive narrative designer, part of the team behind I Love Bees and Why So Serious. She lives in Los Angeles and online.Jane writes fiction about magic and space travel, and nonfiction about games, technology, and culture. She has taught the Game Design Workshop at USC and worked on games like Lego Rock Band and Super Street Fighter HD Remix. She was born in Tokyo and currently lives in Venice, California.<a href="https://storykitchenpodcast.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Story Kitchen</a> is about exploring the techniques of fiction. Rather than following a recipe, we like to examine each individual element and experience how it contributes to the overall experience of narrative. We like to play with different tools and techniques to evaluate their function and aesthetic.
