Introduction to Incident Information (S-203)

The course will be online/virtual and instructor led. National NWCG certification provided.

The course covers establishing and maintaining an incident information operation, communicating with internal and external audiences, working with the news media, handling special situations, and long term planning and strategy.Major Topics Include: Roles and responsibilities of an information officer, mobilization stages, incident information operations, gathering information, dealing with media, community relations, internal audiences and, long term planning.Student Outcomes:Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Demonstrate the skills and knowledge of a public information officer (PIOF) by successfully participating in a simulation and passing a written exam.2. Arrive at an incident properly equipped, and prepared to act as a PIOF.Pre-course work requiredCancellation/Refund Policy: All cancellations must be received 48 hours, two days, prior to delivery. A full refund will be issued within 48 hours of the refund request.
