We have curated a collective of proven teachers, facilitators, and spiritual directors to help guide your learning in mindfulness, contemplation, art and action. We hope you'll try a class and like it enough to become a regular member. Click here to join today.</a></p><h2>Doorways to Contemplation: A Centering Prayer Micro-Retreat</h2><h3>Domain: Contemplative Practice</h3><p>The ability to engage the frenetic pace we live at begins with slowing down. In these turbulent times, spaces of stillness and renewal are becoming more and more vital to the future of humanity.</p><p>Built on the work and legacy of the late Fr. Thomas Keating, <a href="https://www.contemplativeoutreach.org/centering-prayer-method/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Centering Prayer</a> has emerged from the Christian contemplative tradition as a simple way to slow down and consent to transformation. </p><p>Chris La Rue has been practicing Centering Prayer for the past 5 years, and has come to recognize that there are many expressions of this simple practice. Join Chris and a small group of others to explore these four “doorways to contemplation,” seeking to begin the new year with rest and renewal. While Chris hosts The Hive’s weekly Centering Prayer Practice Group online, this experience will cultivate a shared stillness that can only be experienced in person.</p><p>Our time will include three Centering Prayer sits, space for journaling, solitude, triad discussions, and facilitation inspired by the following four expressions of contemplative practice:</p><ol><li><strong>Beyond Conversation to Communion:</strong> Exploring how non-duality within Christian contemplation helps us realize our interdependence with the Divine and one another.</li><li><strong>Practicing Letting Go:</strong> Centering Prayer as <em>“kenosis”</em> or “self-emptying” in the form of contemplative practice; Cooperating with impermanence.</li><li><strong>Knowing Your Yes: </strong>Considering the teachings of Howard Thurman on the importance of encountering one’s inner authority.</li><li><strong>Practicing Non-violence:</strong> Contemplative practice as a seed-bed for nonviolent activism in the world.</li></ol><p>This conversation will be drawn from teachers in the Christian wisdom tradition, while benefiting from experiences of those in the group from other traditions. While some experience with contemplative practice is recommended, activists, artists, faith leaders, and contemplatives of all kinds would benefit from our time of dialogue and stillness. </p><p>The intention is for this micro-retreat to be a co-created, communal experience. As it approaches, Chris will reach out to participants to coordinate an optional potluck lunch.    </p><p>Chris La Rue is a member of the Hive Lead Team. A graduate student in theology at Xavier University, Chris is passionate about conducting rigorous dialogue with his Christian lineage, seeking to excavate the gifts the tradition may have to offer for the common good. Mystical theology, interreligious dialogue, and the role of spirituality in modern times are his primary fields of study. Chris facilitates small groups around the practice of Centering Prayer and other practices engaging the contemplative dimensions of faith. He resides in the Clifton neighborhood of Cincinnati, and can likely be found drinking good coffee with his friends at your local cafe.</p><h3>COVID Considerations:</h3><h3>Since the &quot;we space&quot; of the Hive is a community effort, it is important to us that we partner to make our space as safe as possible to the most vulnerable among us. The intent is to live out a core value of the Hive, which is the co-creation of the common good. </h3><h3>Because of this, it is our policy to require masks regardless of vaccination status for this event. In addition, we ask anyone who is feeling sick or has a high temperature to not attend until they are recovered. </h3><h3>We trust that if you are in community with us that you will join this shared intention.
