African American Medicine in Arkansas

The Arkansas State Archives is an agency of Arkansas Heritage, a division of the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. The State Archives has been responsible for collecting and preserving the official records and historical materials for the state of Arkansas since 1905. The Arkansas State Archives continues its tradition of organizing and maintaining the history of Arkansas by collecting and preserving state, county, and federal records, manuscript materials, newspapers, military records, family histories, an extensive Arkansas history and genealogy library, and a collection of Arkansas art and artifacts. The state archives has two branches, the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives (SARA) in Washington, Hempstead County, Arkansas andthe Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives (NEARA), in Powhatan, Lawrence County, Arkansas.

Please check your emails for a direct Zoom link, or check the Arkansas State Archives Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/ArkansasStateArchives/The Arkansas State Archives, in collaboration with the Black History Commission of Arkansas, will host a symposium titled "African American Medicine in Arkansas" Saturday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. online.Speakers for the symposium will be Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch of Arkansas State University, Dr. Jesse Hargrove of Philander Smith College and Dr. Joycelyn Elders, the first African American and 15th Surgeon General of the United States.
