Dance Performances in South Florida

KINesphere 2021 and 2023 are site-inspired dance performances highlighting the arts and ecostystems of South Florida.

The title of KINesphere emphasizes our “personal space” or “bubble”, something we are all very aware of with COVID-19 social distancing measures, as well as the idea of relating as kin, rather than simply “other”. This idea of kinship comes from my readings of Robin Wall-Kimmerer &amp; Donna J. Haraway. Both of these scientists/writers/teachers/activists encourage us to encounter the natural world as kinfolk, rather than species removed from ourselves. After all, we do all share the same kinesphere of the Earth. In this immersive, site-inspired dance-theatre performance, audiences will encounter 3 dancers in different settings, exploring movement and themes of nature, connection, and action. Because the emphasis in this performance is on connection, community, and kinship, masks are expected. Funding for this project is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council. The park and this event are FREE! However, if you would like to make a donation with your ticket, the proceeds will be split between the dancers and Love the Everglades Movement, an Indigenous-led conservation organization here in South Florida. Suggested donation is $20.
