The Winter Solstice (aka Yule) is a time for introspection, to embrace the profound potential of the dark, quiet stillness between cycles of seasonal changes, and to plant sweet, soul nourishing seeds to be nurtured by emerging light.Join us on Wednesday, December 15, 7:30 p.m. with Jennifer Morris for this virtual workshop via Pay What You Wish Donation: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/215140179067The Winter Solstice is a time of honoring transitions, with folkloric practices, traditions and superstitions for ensuring a prosperous, healthy, good new year. The name Yule, derived from Old English, was celebrated by Germanic peoples as a winter festival with feasting, ale drinking, lifestock sacrifice. While toasts were drunk to Odin, the gods, the king and departed kinsfolk, they told tales of The Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession in the winter sky and of the draugar, the undead who walk the earth.&quot;Witch balls&quot; are shiny blown glass ornaments, such as Christmas baubles, that were hung in cottage windows in 17th and 18th century England to ward off evil spirits.Modern Wicca celebrates winter solstice as the time of the rebirth of the great horned god, the newborn solstice sun. Some common practices involve decorating with Evergreens: pine, holly, juniper, cedar, laurel, bay, rosemary, and cleansing oneself in a salt bath while burning rosemary.The Solstice reminds us that light and shadow, day and night define and balance each other. Wisdom, feelings and thoughts growing in the dark can emerge into the light and be shared aloud and acted upon.The heart beats the rhythm for us to follow, aligning with the pattern that the universe is creating, empowering us.
