Welcome to your comprehensive beginner beekeeping course. This program is designed to give you everything you need as a first-year beekeeper. The program is offered in two tracks: education only and complete first year beekeeper.Those who sign up for the complete first year beekeeper program will receive a langstroth 10-frame beehive including two deep brood boxes and two medium supers, protective equipment including a quality jacket and gloves, and all your essential equipment including smoker, hive tool, varroa wash, and brush, and a locally-raised nucleus hive of honeybees ready for installation.You will also receive education on beehive management in four sessions, timed to coincide with the needs of your colony at that particular time in the season. The classes are designed to give you a basic understanding of beehive management for the entire year. Classes will take 2 hours each. They are tentatively scheduled as follows:January 29, 2022 - Session 1 - Winter: Beekeeping BasicsMarch 26, 2022 - Session 2 - Spring: Your First HiveMay 28, 2022 - Session 3 - Summer: Honey Flow and HealthcareAugust 6, 2022 - Session 4 - Fall: Harvest and Winter PrepRegistrants will also have access to the beekeeper to help with your first (or second or third) inspection. Bees are expected to arrive shortly after session 2. The complete first year beekeeper program costs $799. Additional household members can register for $299 to receive all the same training and equipment EXCEPT for the hive set and bees.Those who are not yet ready to own their own bees and wish to only participate in the classes can register for the education only program for $150.Finally, those who are interested may sign up for only our January session which will provide a general overview of hobby-level beekeeping. Those who sign up for only this introductory session and wish to continue with the educational program for the rest of the year or who are ready to become beekeepers may upgrade their registration so long as space is available.
